Anal fistulotomy by radiofrequency.

چکیده
The fear of recurrence or impairment of continence following an operation of fistula in ano had compelled the surgeons to explore use of a variety of diagnostic aids to identify the offending tracts and an equal number of surgical procedures to reduce these risk factors. But despite all these attempts and trying a number of operative options, majority of surgeons still prefer the classical lay open technique[fistulotomy] as the gold standard of treatment in anal fistula. We present this study of using a radiofrequency device that helps perform fistulotomy in low transphincteric and intersphincteric anal fistula in a better way.

Radiofrequency fistulotomy: a better alternative for treating low anal fistula.
CONTEXT Wide varieties of approaches are employed in dealing with low anal fistula. However, the simple method of laying open the fistula tract (fistulotomy) is still considered to be the favored one. MATERIALS AND METHODS A modified approach to the procedure of fistulotomy is discussed. This study describes the procedure, which used a technique of radiofrequency surgery, and its outcome in 2...
متن کاملA case of multiple (eight external openings) tubercular anal fistulae. Case report.
We report a case of multiple fistulae in ano [8 external openings] in a 45-yrs-old man, who had a history of episodes of pain and pus discharge from openings around the anus since 4 years. Biopsy from the tract of one of the fistula confirmed tubercular infection. He underwent radiofrequency fistulotomy using a Ellman radiofrequency device along with anti-tubercular treatment, which resulted in...
متن کاملRadiofrequency fistulectomy vs. diathermic fistulotomy for submucosal fistulas: a randomized trial.
BACKGROUND Anal fistula represents one of the most frequent anorectal disease. Fistulotomy is considered the gold standard treatment but related problems are numerous (postoperative pain, bleeding, delayed or impaired wound healing). Fistulectomy lowers the recurrences but is less feasible with longer operating time and healing process. We applied the radiofrequencies to fistulectomy and compar...
متن کاملClinical applications of radiofrequency in proctology: a review.
The radiofrequency scalpel is an innovative instrument which allows to cut and coagulate tissues in an atraumatic manner, conversely to the electric scalpel. The authors describe the use of radiofrequencies in proctology by making a literature review for every major proctologic disease (hemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissure, sinus pilonidalis, hypertrophied anal papillae). Many techniques ha...
متن کاملComparison of a Fistulectomy and a Fistulotomy with Marsupialization in the Management of a Simple Anal Fistula: A Randomized, Controlled Pilot Trial
Therefore, the fistulotomy is regarded as the standard treatment for simple anal fistulae and is the most widely-performed procedure. Although whether to perform a fistulotomy or a fistulectomy may be controversial, the fistulotomy is thought to be preferable because healing times are significantly shorter whereas recurrence rates are comparable. Compared with the fistulotomy, the fistulectomy ...
